We are Amy and Ben, the husband and wife team behind Moat Hall Barns; our independent, family-run wedding and events venue near Shrewsbury in rural Shropshire.
The idea of creating a wedding and events venue began after we held our own wedding here in 2019. Guests and suppliers commented on the unique setting, as the venue combines original red brick barns, a paddock, a lake and beautiful gardens on a rustic farm, surrounded by stunning views of the Shropshire hills.
In 2021, we took the plunge and left our careers to focus on the conversion project. The aim was to retain and enhance the character and original features of the barns, whilst minimising its environmental impact. Examples of this are the barn’s solar-powered underfloor heating, double-glazed solid oak joinery, reclaimed tile roof and modern insulation.
Together we run Moat Hall Barns with the support of Amy’s family who worked tirelessly to help convert the listed buildings and surroundings into a beautiful wedding venue, filled with character and charm.
Moat Hall Barns is located on Amy’s family farm, which has been in Amy’s family for over 80 years.
The listed farmhouse dates back to the reign of Henry VIII and still retains its timber framing, ornate plasterwork and hidden priest holes. The farmyard consists of historic brick barns with ancient oak beams, as well as relatively modern outbuildings.
Amy’s father remembers The Top Barn and Hayloft, which are now our main function spaces, being occupied with cart horses, cows, pigs, sheep and chickens in his lifetime. The surrounding fields are still used as grazing pasture today, so you may see a dairy cow or sheep in the distance on your wedding day. On the converted farmyard there is the occasional chicken, curious cats trying to feature in your wedding photographs and if you’re lucky you may spot some peacocks and guineafowl.
We have been hosting weddings since May 2023 and feel incredibly honoured to have played a small part in the happiest days of people’s lives. We can’t wait to hear about your wedding plans!
